Shannon W. Finks, Pharm.D.

Shannon W. Finks, Pharm.D. is a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis. After earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1998, she completed a pharmacy practice residency at Methodist Hospitals of Memphis and, for the next two decades, has practiced and taught in private hospitals, Veterans Administration (VA) hospitals, and academic institutions.

Shannon is Board certified in pharmacotherapy (BCPS) and Cardiology (BCCP), is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and is recognized nationally and internationally as an expert in the field of cardiovascular drug therapy. Accordingly, Shannon is one of only a handful of pharmacists to attain the status of a Certified Hypertension Clinician by the American Hypertension Society Clinical Program (AHSCP-CHC). She is also an experienced American Heart Association instructor for both Basic Life Support (BLS) and for Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS). Her most recent accolade includes a certification in Applied Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine.

Throughout her career, she has mentored countless students and residents (both Pharmacy and Medicine) and taught by example how to design, implement, monitor, evaluate, and modify drug therapy to ensure effective, safe, and economical medications in patients with cardiovascular diseases.   Not limited to drug therapy alone, she teaches on preventative strategies, especially evidence-based lifestyle approaches to reduce risk for chronic diseases like hypertension, lipid abnormalities, anticoagulation, heart failure, obesity, and other cardiovascular diseases.  She is passionate about reducing the number of medications required to manage a person’s illness, a process referred to as “de-prescribing”.

In addition to her role as academic preceptor, counselor, and lecturer, Shannon has delivered over 150 invited lectures to audiences around the world and continues to teach pharmacy topics both online and in person. She is national faculty for two of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy’s Board Certification Courses and frequently presents continuing education for pharmacists on a national scale. Over the years, she has received a number of prestigious teaching awards, including the Most Influential Professor Award from the University of Tennessee College Of Pharmacy, The University of Tennessee Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award, and the SGAEC Excellence in Teaching Award. She has also authored over 30 peer-reviewed papers in prestigious medical and pharmacy journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine.

We are proud that, in addition to providing pharmacy consultation and oversight, Shannon is the President of Züp Medical Services, LLC.

A. “Lloyd” Finks, M.D.

From nursing home administrator to radio talk show host, fishing boat captain to public relations director for Special Olympics, Lloyd traveled the world and enjoyed a broad range of work and experiences before finding his life’s calling and beginning the study of medicine at the “ripe old age” of 32. Ten years later, after graduating from St. George’s University School of Medicine, he moved to Memphis and completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at Methodist University Hospital (formerly Methodist Central Hospital).

When he finished, Lloyd chose the unique beauty and flavors of Memphis as his new home and accepted a faculty position to teach clinical medicine at Methodist. He and four others formed Methodist’s first inpatient “Hospitalist” division in 2004, and he remained as a senior hospitalist partner until 2016 when he was appointed as the Divisional Medical Director for Methodist Affiliated Services.  There he was responsible for the clinical operations of the Methodist Minor Meds, Home Care, and Hospice.

Lloyd served as the Director of Student Medical Education for the Lincoln Memorial DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine and was Assistant Professor in Clinical Medicine for the University  of Tennessee College of Medicine. He has received the Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare Power of One Miracle Award, the SGAEC Excellence in Teaching Award for Clinical Medicine from the University of Tennessee, and has twice received the University of Tennessee College of Medicine MSEC’s Golden Apple award. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine.

Through his experiences in both the medical and service industries, Dr. Finks brings a unique business perspective and aims to blend both hospitality and a higher level of service than is common in the Memphis medical market.   He’s seen how complicated insurance programs, crowded intake areas, and long wait times can negatively impact the patient experience.   The innovative model, highly trained personnel, and modern equipment at ZüpMed are by his design to answer these inefficiencies and to make each visit as efficient and personal as possible.

Lloyd serves as our Medical Director, our senior physician, and the Chief Operating Officer for ZüpMed.
